Important Schedule Notice: No regular sessions this weekend!

Please note that there is NO REGULAR SKATING at Juan de Fuca recreation centre for the club from after the regular session on Thursday January 19th until the regular session on Monday, January 23rd. This is due to the annual old-timers' hockey tournament which affects ice time across the city.

For intermediate and senior skaters wishing to have some ice time on that weekend we will have a special session to be held at West Hills arena, (city centre), on Friday January 20th only, from 7:00am to 8:50am. Space is limited, and as a result the first 20 skaters to sign up and provide the required payment of $20.00 will be entitled to skate on that date and place. (only after the session skater mix is determined will there be any discussion of more skaters permitted at the discretion of the director of skating.)

Sign up sheet will be in the coaches' room.

Off-ice Classes

January 6, 2012

JDF continues to expand it's offerings of off-ice classes for skaters with Shawna Laker.

Intermediates can join for the second part of the winter season. Off-ice sessions take place on Tuesdays (5:45 to 6:30), and Sundays (3:00 to 3:45). Cost from January 3rd to March 20th is $50.00 for one day per week or $95.00 for two days per week.

Seniors will have a new availability of off-ice this half of the winter season. Weekly one hour off-ice sessions will be offered on Mondays from 6:05 to 7:05. Cost from January 2nd to March 19th is $75.00.

NOTE THAT THIS WILL ONLY BE OFFERED IF WE HAVE SUFFICIENT REGISTRATION, SO PLEASE ADVISE OF YOUR INTEREST RIGHT AWAY!!

Juniors, Pre-Juniors and Canskate levels continue to have their classes available - paid for already through their registration - at the times posted on the second page of the schedule.

Competition Updates

Information is now available on the Competitions and Results page for the upcoming Barbara Rasmussen Memorial Competition held March 9th to 11th 2012 in Comox BC. Deadline for entries is February 3rd. Questions concerning eligibility should be directed to your coach.

  • Jan 14th, Jan 16, Jan 19th - Bring a Friend days (remember that all friends must also wear a certified Hockey Helmet)
  • Feb 11th,13th @16th - Valentine's Days (wear your Red and Hearts!)
  • March 12th,15th @17th - St Patricks Days (wear you green for good luck!)

    Volunteers Needed!

    Volunteers are a vital part of any club. JDFSC is run by volunteers and help is always appreciated. The success of our club is a result of the involvement and time invested by our volunteers. Help out as much as you can! Start with a few hours during your child's skating session and perhaps you may want to join the Club Executive. Volunteering is a great way to get involved, learn about skating and meet new people! Anyone who wishes to assist the club should contact us at juandefucasc@shaw.ca

    We Need Music Players

    In order for our STARSkaters to practice effectively and prepare for upcoming competitions and tests, they need people to play music for them. In an effort to be fair, we ask each parent of a Junior, Intermediate or Senior skater to share in playing the music for their skater's session.
