Brian Evans, Director of Skating



Brian is JDF's first Director of Skating, and brings his experience in skating plus recreation and non-profit governance, law, child advocacy, and municipal governance as a municipal councillor.

He was a Novice Dance competitor at the Eastern Canadian Divisional (now Eastern Challenge), and was coached by Susan and Roy Bradshaw, and Elinor Kell (Flack). His partnering experience extends back to the mid 70s and coaching from 1977. He regained eligible status as a competitor on the Ontario/Quebec University Intercollegiate Champion Queen's University Figure Skating Team, and was a University Ice Dance Champion while there.

Brian holds Gold Dance, Silver Interpretive Dance, and Junior Competitive Dance Tests. His students have been partnered successfully through Preliminary through Diamond Dance levels, and he has had dance teams from beginner to Novice Divisional (Challenge) level.

Based on his education and background, he's been involved in multiple seminars and in official capacities with both the Figure Skating Coaches of Canada and Skate Canada. He was the Skate Canada Harassment Officer for Ontario, and has spoken at seminars and workshops to coaches regarding contracts, criminal code and harassment issues, procedural and other legal issues. He has represented clubs and coaches and has promoted skaters through the Skaters Trust program.

Having an interest in theatre and the arts generally, he is an avid dancer on and off the ice. Brian competes in Dancesport in both Latin and Standard categories of international style ballroom dance. Brian has also coached soccer and basketball , and has been a minor hockey trainer.

He currently is completing Level II in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP/ISPC) and has achieved the Bronze level at the halfway point of the two-year Skate Canada Continuing Education Program.
